Job description
Job Summary

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust welcomes applications for the fixed‑term role of MSc module lead for clinical placements (year 2) as we expand the UCL MSc Orthoptic (pre‑registration) education team. The post holder will hold an honorary contract with UCL IoO and be employed by Moorfields Orthoptic Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with other programme module leads to ensure accredited clinical placement programmes have up‑to‑date evidence‑based learning objectives.
  • Collaborate on the delivery of the annual clinical tutor day and provide training in quality assurance for external placement sites.
  • Act as the first point of contact for clinical placement tutors, liaise with UCL regarding students on placement and offer pastoral support to students as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the current clinical placement module lead for year 1 to provide seamless transition for learners.
  • Support and coordinate clinical placements and assessment in line with HCPC requirements.
  • Lead curriculum module review and ongoing development in consultation with programme leads.
  • Prepare high‑quality teaching materials for tutorials post clinical placement and support the creation of the clinical placement timetable.
  • Provide pastoral support role for students, acting as personal tutor and clinical link tutor and UCL tripartite tutor duties.
  • Engage in appropriate scholarly activity and support CPD and knowledge exchange activity.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Current registration with HCPC.
  • Recognised degree or diploma in Orthoptics with considerable postgraduate experience.
  • Evidence of CPD and learning beyond qualification.
  • Experience of delivering clinical education, training and supervision.
  • Experience of programme design (desirable).
  • Experience of developing protocols or competencies (desirable).
Skills
  • Evidence of recent scholarly activity.
  • Knowledge of current policies and practices concerning Orthoptics and healthcare education.
  • Advanced planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working in an academic environment (desirable).
