Introduction

Its Technology Systems division manufactures, installs and supports complex systems to markets including Defence & Aerospace, Government, Broadcast, Security and Air Traffic management.

In the UK naval market, it supplies secure communications systems, message handling systems, HF and V/UHF software defined radios. Our solutions can be found across the whole Fleet, including the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Bay Class Landing Ships Docking (Auxiliary). We’re also supplying and supporting systems for other defence, security and commercial customers nationwide.

This is a particularly exciting time to join Rohde and Schwarz in the UK as we’re ramping‑up to supply, commission and support the state‑of‑the‑art NAVICS integrated communications system for the Royal Navy's Type 26 Global Combat Ship which will be a key RN asset for decades to come.

As our business continues to grow in the UK, we are looking for experienced systems engineers with knowledge of communication and other complex systems used by military and commercial customers to join our team.

The Role

Joining as a Systems Engineer, you will provide support through‑life to our customers by completing installation, maintenance and defect rectification of the full range of Rohde and Schwarz systems, including Integrated Communications Systems, Software Defined Radios, Internal Communications, Main Broadcast and Alarms.

Working both independently with a high degree of autonomy as well as in teams, you will be travelling to customer sites including naval vessels within the UK and overseas and other defence and commercial locations. We’ll provide you with a company vehicle, the necessary IT, training and a network of support you will need to be effective.

Responsibilities
  • Install, commission and upgrade company systems at customer sites
  • Provide onsite and remote technical support to customers through‑life, acting as an initial technical support contact and liaising as necessary with internal and external technical contacts to provide solutions
  • Utilise, modify and generate technical documentation as required
  • Contribute to design reviews, especially with respect to in‑service support considerations
  • Deliver technical training for customers, either office‑based or field‑based
  • Oversee and approve subcontract on‑site technical activities
  • Provide support and advice to the sales team
Skills and Experience required
Essential
  • Experience with RF communications and complex systems
  • A logical and effective fault‑finding and troubleshooting methodology
  • Willingness to travel (up to xx%), normally with advance planning but sometimes at short notice, to customer locations predominantly within the UK but sometimes overseas
  • Professional in appearance and manner
  • Good communicator, able to convey complex technical information in both written and verbal communication formats
  • Full UK driving license
  • Eligible for UK SC and DV Security Clearance
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, Windows)
  • Motivated self‑starter with problem‑solving talent, must be able to self‑manage and work independently

  • Teamworking, liaising and working comfortably with colleagues, customers and suppliers
  • Flexible, able to operate in a dynamic environment, handling overlapping projects and tasks and anticipating problems and forming workarounds proactively
  • Good personal organisation, able to plan work packages and coordinate inputs and dependencies

  • Knowledge of System Engineering Processes.
