Tutor

Location: Shepherd's Bush

Hours: 25 hours a week (part-time), term time only

Pay: £30-£35 per hour

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate tutor (with QTS) to support an 11-year-old autistic child with ASD and SEMH needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive and responsive learning environment. You will work one-to-one with the young person, primarily within a home and school setting in Shepherd's Bush and West London. The role will require planning and feedback to be provided to the school and parents.

Tutor Role:

Based in Shepherd's Bush / West London, this part-time tutor role involves working with teachers to deliver and differentiate a bespoke curriculum tailored to the student, alongside a mentor. Strong behaviour management skills are essential. The student attends a mainstream school and receives additional support from a 1:1 Mentor and tutor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be flexible, as tuition may take place in school or at home
  • Deliver a differentiated curriculum alongside the student’s teachers (Year 7 level)
  • Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the young person's pace and preferences
  • Use positive, non-directive methods to support learning and engagement
  • Support the young person's independence while being available to intervene before overwhelm occurs
  • Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
  • Encourage initiation, allow processing time, and offer flexible choices
  • Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
  • Be willing to accompany the young person to safe, familiar places that support wellbeing and learning
  • Participate in 2 hours of weekly physical activity of your choice

Essential Qualities:

  • QTS or equivalent qualification
  • Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
  • Experience working with students with SEMH is desirable but not essential
