Job summary

A childcare support service in York is seeking two Family Support Workers to assist a young boy with disabilities and his family. Responsibilities include personal care, supporting therapies, and general household duties. About the Job

We are recruiting two Family Support Workers to support Adam, a 9‑year‑old boy with cerebral palsy, global developmental delay and epilepsy (controlled with medication), and his family. Adam attends an SEN school and has a range of therapies planned. He can walk short distances with support and uses a buggy for outings. His speech and understanding are significantly delayed; he often uses shouting or shouting to vocalise.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Adam with dressing, toileting, bathing and feeding.
  • Plan, supervise and support all therapies, activities, bath time, play time and outings.
  • Provide general housework such as laundry and light housekeeping, relieving Adam’s parents.
  • Look after Adam’s younger sister when Adam is at school.
  • Support the home during family gatherings and friends’ visits.
  • Occasionally accompany the family on holidays within the UK and abroad.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children under two and children with physical and learning disabilities.
  • Desirable: Understanding of ABI and epilepsy; Punjabi language skills to improve communication with some family members.
  • Good understanding of working within a family home; ability to support a family with multiple caring responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel on family holidays and cover staff annual leave.
