Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow Post (St5-7 equivalent) in Paediatrics with paediatric respiratory at The Royal London Hospital. The post will be for a period of 9 months with potential extension depending on clinical performance and vacancies available.

Who is this Post Suitable For?
  • Paediatric Trainees who want to further their Paediatric Respiratory and General paediatric experience
  • Trainees who are out of programme and keen to deepen their paediatric sub-specialty experience before applying for sub-speciality GRID
  • Trainees who have completed their CCT and wish to gain further General Paediatric experience, working with other respiratory registrars, responsible for day-to-day running of the respiratory ward, supervising juniors and liaising with the MDT
Responsibilities
  • Consultant led ward rounds at varying points of the week
  • Provide cross-cover during leave of absence for other respiratory registrars on the ward
  • Train to take respiratory referrals from other teams including PCCU and NICU
  • Participate in weekly grand rounds attended by all consultants and psychosocial MDT meetings
  • Supervise elective and emergency admissions, from arranging admission and investigations to completing discharge summaries and ensuring full communication and handover
  • Asthma and general respiratory clinic – rostered with the other registrars
Opportunities and Training
  • Insertion of longlines – training will be provided if required
  • Learn principles of paediatric bronchoscopy
  • Learn principles/interpretation of sleep studies (oximetry, cardiorespiratory and polysomnography)
  • Learn to perform, interpret and report lung function tests including spirometry, plethysmography, hypoxic challenge test, exercise bronchoconstriction, 6 minute walk test, nNO and FeNO and multiple breath washout
  • Learn to perform and interpret skin prick allergy tests
  • Attend TB, oxygen dependent infant & immunology clinics
  • Attend CF, bronchiectasis, PCD, NIV and TaDAA clinics
  • Attendance at departmental and educational sessions

  • There are no night-time or weekend duties associated with this appointment
