Job description

To develop and implement a high-quality, cost-effective national transport plan that meets customer requirements while adhering to Suttons operational parameters and safety compliance standards. This involves optimizing resource utilisation to maximize service levels, productivity, and cost efficiency, ensuring a first-class customer experience. The role also includes supporting broader transport functions, such as EU planning and tank asset planning, and requires effective communication with hauliers and internal stakeholders throughout the planning and dispatch process. This role is also accountable for delivering on the company's customer commitments through a focus on safety, compliance, service standards, people management, and continuous improvement. You will cover 3 rolling shifts which are as follows; 0630 - 1430 / 0900 - 1700 / 1100 - 1900.,

Responsibilities
  • Manage daily planning requirements, proactively identifying and recommending process improvements to optimize planning efficiency
  • Continuously monitor and adjust daily plans to address potential issues and optimize resource allocation
  • Demonstrate proactive shift management capabilities, responding effectively to evolving operational needs and translating information into efficient planning decisions
  • Collaborate with internal transport operations and external customers to align demand with flexible resources
  • Conduct long-range forecasting to anticipate and mitigate potential resource challenges
  • Match driver capabilities with available resources to fulfill planning requirements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, ensuring clear communication of work schedules and resolving daily operational issues
  • Act as the main point of contact for Suttons operations with key transport suppliers
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication regarding plan changes
  • Provide timely solutions to customer inquiries and complaints, upholding high customer service standards
  • Adapt to fluctuating customer demands to ensure needs are met effectively
  • Collaborate to schedule vehicle maintenance appropriately
  • Develop and adhere to a weekly schedule for vehicle and tanker servicing and MOTs, following company procedures
  • Manage delays and breakdowns, including re-planning, customer communication, and system updates
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail to ensure data integrity within business systems and compliance with reporting requirements
  • Schedule load/delivery times and update the Manpack system
  • Establish new loading and delivery addresses in Manpack, including geofence creation
  • Perform Manpack administration tasks, such as resource allocation, shift start time management, staging, and split deliveries
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven experience in a Transport Planning role within a fast-paced, demanding environment (e.g., logistics, distribution, transportation)
  • Knowledge of UK transport regulations and legislation
  • Management of 3rd Party Service suppliers such as Hauliers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in using transport planning software (Mandata, Manpack) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Experience in the tank container or bulk liquid (chemical) transportation industry
  • Knowledge of specific industry regulations (e.g., IMDG Code, ADR)
  • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex operational challenges, and translate into reports
