Overview

Transport Planner

We are seeking an organised and proactive Transport Planner to join a busy logistics operation in the Crewe area. You will be responsible for planning efficient daily routes, allocating drivers and vehicles, and ensuring deliveries are completed safely, compliantly, and on time.

Shift Pattern

12-hour day shifts; 4 on / 4 off rotating shift pattern.

Main duties
  • Plan and optimise daily routes to maximise efficiency and profitability
  • Allocate drivers and vehicles in line with drivers\' hours and operational requirements
  • Communicate effectively with customers to maintain service levels and relationships
  • Monitor KPIs and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with driver debriefs, tachograph downloads, and driver investigations
  • Ensure compliance with EU transport legislation and the Working Time Directive (WTD)
  • Escalate operational issues and support solution planning
  • Support senior planners with resourcing, rotas, holidays, and absence management
  • Liaise with management and subcontractors to ensure effective use of resources
  • Promote company standards, brand values, and a positive health and safety culture
Skills and Experience
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities
  • High attention to detail, particularly with numerical data
  • Confident problem-solving skills
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to use multiple IT systems
  • Previous experience in transport planning, logistics, or a similar role
  • Experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment (desirable)
  • National CPC qualification (desirable)
