Job description

Our Seaham facility is currently seeking a Transport Manager կար 12‑month fixed‑term contract to ensure legal compliance is adhered to in line with operator licence stipulations. To direct, control and monitor transport planning, staff and drivers and ensure the completion of all daily functions is completed to a high standard. Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all transport fleet vehicles are properly maintained and serviced at correct intervals, complying with licence undertakings.
  • Manage the development, performance and maintenance of the organisation's transport to produce an efficient transport service, maximising performance, value and profitability against pre‑agreed targets.
  • Manage the depot budget, deliver excellent customer service and develop continuous improvement plans to maximise profitability and performance.
  • Be knowledgeable in all compliance areas including legislative, productivity, quality and service.
  • Develop new initiatives and look for new ways to optimise the transport service offering, taking ownership of opportunities to improve depot performance.
  • Support and develop your team, appraising staff performance and taking appropriate measures when required.
  • Monitor driver performance by means of vehicle telematics; monitor DCPC periodic training and book training courses as required.
  • Monitor, debrief and manage driver EU and Working Time infringements, carrying out or arranging installeren as needed.
  • Own the safety of the transport operations and manage/investigate accidents/incidents as required.
  • Assist in developing plans for team activities to include strategy to achieve agreed targets.
  • Day‑to‑day tasks such as route planning, resource allocation and management, driver supervision.
  • You are responsible for health and safety training on site and for implementing site‑based risk assessments and safe working procedures, maintaining a proactive approach to all H&S‑oriented issues and resolving any issues arising on shift.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must have a Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to manage and motivate a team, maintain standards and drive change where needed.
  • Good geographical knowledge and depot network understanding.
  • The ability to learn new systems and ways of working is essential.
  • Using strong communication skills, you will proactively approach other key stakeholders within the network to ensure we are operating in the most cost‑effective way.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • The successful candidate must have their own transport to get to our Seaham depot located at Foxcover Distribution Park, Unit 3 & 4, Admiralty Way, Seaham, Co. Durham, SR7 7DN.
