This role involves managing up to 300 colleagues and ensuring the smooth running of transport services 24/7. Candidates should have significant experience in management within logistics and be capable of dealing with a sizeable budget. A CPC qualification is preferred. Overview

Transport Manager — Up to £75k plus great benefits (Work Level 5). 5 days over 7. Newhouse Depot.


This is a permanent, full-time vacancy. Hours are 39 per week with flexibility to meet business needs and to cover a 24/7 operation. You will be part of a weekend on-call rota (currently 1 in 4 weekends but may change subject to business needs).



What you'll do


  • Be accountable for the transport operation across Newhouse Depot 24/7

  • Lead, coach and manage up to 300 colleagues (direct and indirect) across the operation with a focus on performance

  • Support depot planning and strategy development, driving continuous improvement and efficiencies throughout the operation

  • Work collaboratively with the Warehouse Manager to ensure a streamlined service between depot teams and our food stores

  • Deliver critical transport metrics (timescales, safety and budgets)

  • Be responsible for an annual transport budget of circa £35m

  • Collaborate with a wide range of Co-op colleagues and external partners

  • Promote an engaging culture by bringing innovative ideas to engage a remote workforce



This role would suit people who have


  • Proven management experience leading up to 300 colleagues over a 24/7 operation

  • Experience working in a logistics/manufacturing environment with experience of operating in a heavily unionised environment

  • Strong relationship management experience with the ability to communicate with and influence people at all levels

  • Experience managing a sizeable budget

  • A current manager CPC qualification, to hold the O-licence is preferred however would expect this to be obtained upon appointment

  • A strategic way of thinking and ability to translate strategy into operational tasks
