Job summary

A leading logistics company is seeking a Transport First Line Manager in Wigan to lead a team of delivery drivers, ensuring efficient transport operations and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years in a leadership role within transport, a national CPC, and a solid understanding of road transport regulations. This role requires strong people skills and the ability to adapt to changing environments. Competitive hourly rate of £16.56 plus shift allowance is offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Leader/Supervisor within a transport operation.
• Good knowledge of Road Transport Regulations and adherence to 'O' Licence requirements.
• Experience in improving transport operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of delivery drivers.
• Ensure legal compliance and safety within the Transport function.
• Manage resources to meet delivery schedules while maintaining quality.

Main Responsibilities, reporting to the Transport Manager

• Leading and motivating your team of skilled service delivery crews and Team Leaders, coaching and developing those who need further support.
• Efficient fleet utilisation, resource planning and cost control (whilst always ensuring the operation is both practical and compliant).
• Taking the lead for legal compliance and safety.
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency within the Transport function and recommending and implementing changes where needed.
• The resourcing, development and management of all colleagues within your team, ensuring our service delivery crews are fully trained in all areas (in particular driver CPC, service delivery standards and product installation).
• Making prompt decisions that protect customer service and our delivery schedule, while remaining commercially focused.
• Managing on-site resources (colleagues, vehicles and equipment) to ensure we have everything required in the right place at the right time not only to meet, but also flex, to our customers' changing needs.

The Ideal Candidate

With the number of applications expected for this position, we will only be able to proceed with candidates who match our essential requirements stated below :

• At least 2 years’ experience as a Leader / Supervisorwithin a transport operation.
• Possess a good knowledge of Road Transport Regulations andhold a national CPC.
• Ensure that ‘O’ Licence requirements are adhered to.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Demonstrable experience improving transport operations and introducing operational excellence.
• Strong people skills – able to influence, coach and develop.
• Able to work in an ever-changing environment with the additional pressure to deliver on time every day.
