Job description

The Transformational Programme Lead sits at the centre of programme delivery ensuring that national strategy becomes effective local action. You will lead the rollout of participation programmes, coordinate delivery capacity and ensure that projects are implemented consistently on time and to a high standard. Clubs and regional partners will rely on you for clear programme guidance, practical support and reliable follow-through.

British Rowing’s Development Directorate is focused on strengthening the foundations of the sport and supporting more people to take part in ways that suit their lives. We work with clubs, community partners and national programmes to broaden access, modernise participation offers and create clearer, more connected pathways into and through rowing. Our evidence‑led, collaborative approach is centred on enabling local environments to thrive.

We aim to make rowing more relevant, welcoming and sustainable for the long term. This means testing new ideas, supporting clubs to develop strong local partnerships and ensuring that volunteers and staff have the tools and confidence to deliver high‑quality experiences. The directorate works closely across British Rowing to link participation, workforce events and talent development into a coherent, inclusive system.

A bit about you
  • Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of participation programmes across indoor and on‑water rowing, ensuring activity meets agreed standards and timelines.
  • Manage programme resources and oversee a team of Project Activators to deliver responsive, high‑quality support to clubs.
  • Build effective relationships with clubs, schools, universities and regional partners, acting as a central coordinating point.
  • Develop delivery plans, monitor progress and use evidence and reporting tools to demonstrate impact and inform decision‑making.
  • Support clubs to adopt new formats, pilot innovations and embed successful approaches into their regular activity.
  • Share learning and delivery insights to help refine and scale programmes nationally.

If you are organised, delivery‑focused and motivated by helping programmes land well on the ground, this role will let you play a central part in building lasting change across the sport.
