Job description

This Trainee Project Manager will report to the Major Connections Senior Project Manager and will work within Major Connections based in our Maidstone office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £54,166 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose

As a Trainee Project Manager you will manage a number of major connections in the SPN area and to ensure successful pre and post contract management of all projects in order to exceed the customer expectations. To complete commercial project management through full life cycle of the project from initial enquiry through to post investment appraisal following the UK Power Networks Project Governance and Control process.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage projects throughout their lifecycle from Enquiry, through Quotation/delivery and on to completion following PG and C process.
  • Liaison with asset management to obtain point of connection information and develop strategies fro delivering customer requirements
  • Produce quotations in line with our Licence conditions ensuring regulatory compliance of all projects (LC12, LC15, LC15a).
  • Liaison with delivery partners; both during the Design and Programme Delivery for the pricing and delivery of new connections solutions.
  • Manage the delivery of new connections major projects, when required to do so.
  • Manage the financial control of projects, ensuring the delivery of planned Gross Margins.
  • Ensure design compliance with CDM.
  • Work with customers and government offices to progress long term strategies for the connection of new load for the expansion of development areas.
  • Liaison across the company with marketing and key account management, finance, legal, regulation and network governance to ensure a consistent and appropriate strategy..
  • Effectively manage workload. Take full responsibility and ownership of the success of projects.
  • An understanding of the HV and EHV networks in one or more on the footprints would be advantageous;
  • A can do and customer friendly attitude is most important with and keenness to excess customer expectations
  • Presentations to external customers and UK Power Networks senior management will require the candidate to display confidence and a professional attitude.
  • Produce and manage ITT in conjunction with procurement for cable installations.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

A HNC in Electrical Engineering (or similar) is the preferred requirement. However, applications from candidates with a lesser qualification and a strong track record in either project management or distribution networks (design or construction) would be welcomed.

Work prioritisation managing multiple projects at the same time

An understanding and use of Microsoft Office packages Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

Experience of the Project Governance and Control process and a strong commercial awareness would be advantageous.
