A long-established manufacturing business based in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking an ambitious and proactive Office Manager Trainee to join its small, dedicated team. The company is currently reviewing its systems and processes and is looking for someone eager to contribute to business development and operational improvement. This role offers significant scope for progression. With initiative, creativity, and a “can-do” mindset, the right candidate could quickly develop into a management‑level position, with the opportunity to help shape the company’s future direction.

The Role

Working closely with the Office Manager and Financial Controller, you will support a wide range of administrative, accounting, and operational functions within the business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Daily order entry, progress tracking, and liaising with production teams
  • Supporting quality assessment, dispatch coordination, and order reporting
  • Processing sales and supplier invoices
  • Assisting with costings, margin analysis, and profitability reporting
  • Helping to implement new cloud‑based accounting and reporting systems (including Xero)
  • Supporting the development of new operational procedures and reporting tools
About You

We’re looking for a motivated individual with strong organisational and analytical skills, who’s ready to take ownership and make a real impact.

Essential skills
  • Excellent written English and numeracy
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)
  • Strong IT and data‑handling skills
  • Good attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
  • Basic accounting knowledge or experience with finance systems
  • Business studies or related qualification

This position would suit someone with a background in office administration or business operations who is ready to step into a development role with management potential.

Progression & Development

This is a hands‑on training position with a clear pathway to senior responsibility. You’ll work closely with senior management and be directly involved in modernising systems, improving workflows, and supporting strategic growth.

Based on performance, initiative, and contribution, this role could evolve into a management team position, with potential for future ownership opportunities.
