Job description
Trainee Epilepsy Nurse

The closing date is 28 December 2025

We are looking for a skilled nurse to join our Epilepsy Service as a Trainee Epilepsy Specialist.

As a development role you will train and acquire specialist skills in the assessment, treatment and management of people with epilepsy. You will have a professional development plan co‑written with the Specialist Epilepsy Nurse. Within 1–18 months of starting, you will progress to Band 6 as a new specialist.

Main duties of the job

You will link patients with epilepsy, consultant neurologists and GPs, advising and monitoring medication changes. You will support the development of service pathways and contribute to quality improvement activities.

Job responsibilities

Please note: at this stage the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Level 6 Degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge gained through experience plus a diploma in nursing
  • Registered Healthcare Professional with relevant professional body (1st Level Nurse / NMC or Physiotherapist; Occupational Therapist; etc / HCPC)
Experience
  • Recent experience of healthcare gained through education, work experience or previous employment.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of up to date clinical practice
  • Awareness of developments within the NHS (advantage)
