Overview

Job Title: Tour Guide and Ticket Desk

Reporting To: Management Team

Job Type: Part-time, weekends and school holidays

Kents Cavern, an award-winning tourist attraction and renowned prehistoric site in Torquay, Devon, is seeking a new tour guide to join our dynamic and friendly team. This role involves entertaining and leading visitors of all ages on guided tours around the cave system, as well as retail shop operations, ticketing, and other customer service duties outside the caves. You may also be involved in site cleaning and maintenance and in keeping the children’s activity area and woodlands safe and clean.

Uniform: You will be required to wear the uniform provided.

Minimum age: 18

Outline of Duties

The following is an outline of duties required from the role.

Guiding
  • Deliver 4 to 6, 45-minute presentations around the cave per day.
  • Carry out daily safety checks around the site.
  • Sweep paths and patio areas.
  • Litter-pick the site and car park.
  • Maintain cleanliness of toilet facilities.
  • Maintain and clear site bins and wastage.
Ticketing & Retail Operations
  • General front of house reception duties.
  • Welcoming and directing visitors.
  • Stock control, shop displays and cleanliness of the retail space.

Follow opening and closing procedures.

  • Answer the telephone and provide callers with information about the attraction.
Health and Safety

The company has a clear health and safety policy and this must be followed at all times. Checklists and procedures assist in the delivery of this policy and full training will be given.

Other Duties

The above list is not exhaustive. You may be asked to assist in other areas as required by the business and subject to the necessary training. We value team spirit and a candidate should be prepared to help in any department where a need is identified.

Hours

The role requires the ability to work daytime and evening shifts on any day of the week. Peak visitor times are at weekends and during holiday periods. Leave is not permitted over bank holiday weekends and during school holidays. Any existing holiday commitments should be noted on your application and will be considered when assessing suitability.

Interviews: Tuesday 7 October and Wednesday 8 October

Applicants must be available for training in the week commencing Monday 13 October or Monday 20 October.
