Job description

Our client in Worcester is looking for a skilled Tool Maker / Bench Fitter to support production through the maintenance, repair, and manufacture of press tooling. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who can work on their own initiative with a good level of skill in finishing, fitting and assembly of press tools who react quickly to breakdowns, and work closely with press setters to minimise downtime. Available is a competitive salary, day shift working hours, early finish on Friday and a bright modern tool, room environment.

Shift: Days Mon – Fri (2.30 finish on a Friday)

Tool Maker / Bench Fitter Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, service, and repair press tools to support ongoing production
  • Clean and degrease tools removed from production for service or breakdown repair
  • Assemble and dismantle press tools for regrinding or replacement of tooling parts
  • Assist press setters with tooling adjustments and repairs to keep tools running wherever possible
  • Manufacture tooling parts during breakdowns to minimise production downtime
  • Support production with changeover parts during product changes
  • Locate and supply correct tooling components (screws, dowels, etc.) to ensure correct fitment and prevent damage
  • Report low stock levels of consumables and any defective equipment
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety
  • Communicate any tooling or component modifications to the Tooling Engineer for documentation updates
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • City & Guilds Engineering Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Mechanical or general engineering-based apprenticeship
  • Knowledge of progression press tooling
  • Tool making, tool repair, JIG Tool & Die maintenance
  • J&S type surface grinders
  • Milling, turning, drilling, and tapping equipment and hand tools
  • Ability to read and interpret component and tooling assembly drawings

You will have held roles current or recent to include press tool maker, toolmaker, tool repair technician, assembly technician, bench hand, bench fitter or JT&D fitter.
