Overview

Shift Leader role at Tesco. Our shift patterns include defined availability windows and a guaranteed minimum number of hours. We offer a starting rate of pay and potential location-based increases.

Availability and pay

Our availability windows are shown in the schedule. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you will have 3 weeks’ notice of your shifts. We are happy to support flexibility if your available times match closely but not exactly to those advertised.

Our Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 per hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location.

It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too and would still love to hear from you.

There is a requirement to be 18 or over to apply for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a fast-paced retail environment, with variety
  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations
  • Be there for customers, listening and helping them obtain what they came for
  • Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback
  • Guide and support colleagues in-store, ensuring a safe place to work and shop
  • Maintain an understanding of store performance and assist managers in actions to improve operations
  • Lead from the front and set a great example for colleagues
Additional responsibilities
  • Coordinate the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience
  • Support colleagues, ensuring daily priorities are delivered and breaks are taken
  • Open and close the store and complete duty cover with safety in mind
  • Be the go-to person for day-to-day queries in the absence of a manager
  • Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Support managers to coordinate seasonal, community and charity events
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive team atmosphere
  • Provide great customer service by listening to customers
  • Keep the team informed on communications, changes, or updates
  • Stay knowledgeable about store performance and seek ways to improve operations
  • Coordinate store improvements and remove obstacles to great service
  • Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues providing great service
  • Be a role model with thoughtful customer service to meet customer needs
  • Build strong, long-lasting relationships with colleagues
  • Communicate clearly using various methods to keep the team informed
  • Be comfortable taking the lead and overseeing the store in the absence of the Manager
  • Make good decisions and adapt to change to benefit customers and colleagues
  • Be motivating to inspire the team to perform beyond expectations
  • Be curious and look for ideas to serve customers, communities, and the planet
