A leading technology service provider is seeking a Technical Services Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain secure hosting environments. You will work alongside various engineers to ensure high availability and security across critical IT infrastructure. Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, DevOps tooling, and networking fundamentals are essential. This position is located in Warton, with a competitive hourly rate offered.

Job Title: Technical Services Platform Engineer – Client: BAE Systems – Location: Warton – Duration: 6-12 Months, 37hrs per week (with opportunity for extension) – Hourly Rate: Competitive (INSIDE IR35) – Clearance Level: BPSS + SC + UK EYES ONLY

Role Description

We are seeking two experienced Technical Services Platform Engineers to join our Technical Services Product Team. Working within a highly regulated environment, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable hosting environments that support engineering and software development workloads. You will work alongside Network, Security, and Platform Engineers to deliver state-of-the-art digital solutions, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across critical IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain physical and virtualised infrastructure, networks, and storage solutions.
  • Build, configure, and manage systems in cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Monitor performance, security, and sustainability of systems and services.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams to deliver new solutions.
  • Maintain detailed design documentation and ensure operational transparency.
  • Contribute to service readiness, change governance, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and hands-on support for engineering environments.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years' experience as a Platform Engineer (or similar role).
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure including Windows Server/Desktop, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Cloud Services, and Kubernetes administration/development.
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD tooling and containerisation.
  • Strong networking fundamentals: switching, routing, firewalls, VLANs/VNets, protocols, and services.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and solution development skills.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl).
  • Experience working within regulated and security-classified environments.
