Salary: Up to £43,915 per annum (DOE)
Get out rate: £40.38 per hour
Hours: Full time, 1929 hours per annum (equivalent to 37 hours per week)
Contract type: Permanent, full time, annualised contract

Join the Bournemouth International Centre and Bournemouth Pavilion's technical stage department as a Technical Manager.

With over 400 events annually, our team covers a diverse range, from live music tours and West-end musical productions to opera, conferences, and in-house productions.

This role forms a crucial component to our in-house technical team, responsible for delivering top-tier lighting, sound, AV, stage production management, and client services for banquets, entertainments, and conferences.

Located in beautiful Bournemouth on the South coast, surrounded by stunning beaches and a vibrant town with shops, eateries, and attractions, this position offers a varied schedule across two buildings with six venues, including an arena, art-deco ballroom, and a 1500-seater proscenium theatre.

This dynamic role combines people management skills with creativity and customer service, focusing on the successful delivery of events. The Technical Manager is responsible for planning and delivering all types of events, from setup to completion, actively managing teams, handling logistics, and ensuring events meet high expectations safely on time and on budget. It's an ideal role for someone passionate about fostering team development, who enjoys developing infrastructures and making things their own.

You will need advanced knowledge of lighting and sound, an interest in AV and excellent people skills to lead our experienced technical colleagues. As well as previous experience in both an entertainment and conferencing environment.

You will:
  • Have a primary focus for the safe and efficient delivery of productions and events, including set up, hiring equipment, the organisation of colleagues and clear communication throughout the process.
  • Help to line manage contracted and casual technical colleagues.
  • Be the primary contact for incoming productions and events and work in close collaboration with other colleagues within the technical management team.
  • Assist the Technical Production Manager to ensure the site is compliant and ensure safe working practices are understood and observed by everyone within your own areas and also in the wider building.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed prior to the arrival of all production and events and relevant information is shared with the technical team.
  • Work closely with the programming team to ensure all productions/events are made aware of any recharges.
  • Design, programme and operative AV, lighting and sounds for productions and events.
  • Ensure the venues infrastructure and systems are kept updated and aligned with the latest technologies available.
To be successful you will need:
  • Experience of delivering a high standard of live technical events and an enthusiasm for working within the live events industry.
  • Previous experience in managing or supervising a technical department.
  • Experience in the operations and safe construction of staging, live sound, lighting and AV
  • A thorough knowledge of current legislation inc PUWER, LOLER, COSHH and mains distribution BS7909.
  • Flexibility is crucial in this role, as our team provides technical support seven days a week across various event arenas. You will work on a rota basis on an annualised hours contract.
