Job description
Job description:

Do you want to shape the future of manufacturing and lead a team turning cutting‑edge research (quite literally!) into real‑world products? The AMRC is seeking an inspiring Technical Lead to guide our composite machining team and deliver world‑class solutions across aerospace, automotive, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

In this role, you will lead multiple projects, translating ambitious research into production‑ready components for next‑generation aircraft for Boeing and Airbus, aeroengines for Rolls‑Royce, high‑performance vehicles for McLaren and their supply chains, as well as wind and tidal turbines, bridges, and housing. You will mentor a diverse CNC machining team, developing skills in programming, machine operation, troubleshooting, and digital manufacturing practices, while ensuring high‑quality, efficient, and repeatable outcomes.

Working closely with senior research staff in the Composite Centre, you will support the development and implementation of new strategies, technologies, and digital systems that enhance research capabilities and industrial impact. You will optimise machining parameters, generate robust CNC programs, integrate process monitoring and analytics, and apply innovative cutting tool strategies to achieve excellence across every project.

We are looking for someone with extensive CNC experience, advanced multi‑axis machining skills, hands‑on expertise with composites, and proficiency in CAD/CAM and verification tools. Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and organisational abilities are essential, as is a practical understanding of engineering drawings, tool optimisation, and production processes.

Desirable skills include standardising machining processes, digital process monitoring, data analytics, lean principles, virtual machining, and digital simulation.

Join the AMRC and lead projects that don’t just make parts—they make history. Shape the future of composite manufacturing and see your work drive innovation across aircraft, vehicles, energy systems, and infrastructure worldwide.
