About the Role

A Technical Delivery Manager will ensure the successful delivery of a digital product roadmap by guiding a cross-functional team through the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The role is primarily focused on planning, managing, and overseeing the entire delivery process for a portfolio of digital projects. To be successful in this role, you will have a media or publishing background, with solid Agile experience. This is a hybrid role, with 3 days based in the office.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery Plan Ownership and Management

  • Own and manage the end-to-end delivery plan for a portfolio of digital strategic projects. This includes:
  • Translating Strategy into Action: Working closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and Engineering stakeholders to understand product and technology goals and translate them into a comprehensive, actionable delivery plan.
  • Managing Constraints: Expertly managing projects to ensure they are delivered within the defined constraints of time, cost, and scope.
  • Resource and Structure Management: Ensuring teams understand project objectives and that appropriate resources and team structures are in place to deliver the project goals.
  • Dependency Management: Identifying and managing relationships and dependencies with various technical and non-technical teams (e.g., Editorial) and with key vendors and suppliers.

Team Coordination and Facilitation

  • Team Coordination: As a central point of contact, you will ensure seamless collaboration within the team, including Product & Design, Business Analysts, Engineers, and QAs
  • Facilitating Communication: Serving as the bridge between technical teams and all stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment.

Risk and Issue Management

Using appropriate agile and project methodologies to track risks, issues, and dependencies. This proactive approach helps to anticipate technical challenges, develop mitigation strategies, and keep stakeholders informed about potential impacts on the delivery plan.

Quality and Process Improvement

You will be responsible for the overall quality of the delivered product, and the efficiency of the development process is a core responsibility. This includes:

  • Ensuring Quality Gates: Ensuring all technical dependencies are in place and that each feature is formally signed off before being released.
  • Fostering Best Practices: Ensuring the team follows an efficient SDLC framework and continuously looking for ways to improve processes by keeping up to date with the latest delivery and technology innovations.

Stakeholder Communication and Expectations

Expertly managing senior stakeholders and their expectations within the prevailing delivery constraints. This involves providing regular, clear updates on project progress and managing communication effectively to ensure everyone is aligned on the delivery plan and its status.

Essential Skills
  • Domain Expertise: Prior experience in a delivery management role (e.g., Delivery Manager, Project Manager,) working with cross-functional technical teams following the SDLC.
  • Agile and Project Management Methodologies: Deep practical knowledge of agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and an understanding of project management principles.
  • Strong Communication and Facilitation: The ability to act as a central point of contact, run effective meetings, and facilitate communication between diverse cross-functional teams and senior technical and business stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management: Expertise in managing senior stakeholders and their expectations. This includes providing clear, concise reports on progress and constraints to maintain alignment and trust.
  • Risk and Dependency Management: A proactive approach to identifying, tracking, and mitigating project risks and technical dependencies. This skill is critical for foreseeing potential roadblocks and keeping the delivery plan on track.
  • Technical Acumen: A solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and digital product development. This is necessary to understand technical challenges, manage dependencies, and communicate effectively with engineering teams and third-party vendors.
  • Planning and Execution: The ability to translate high-level business goals and product roadmaps into a detailed, actionable delivery plan, and the discipline to manage that plan to completion within defined constraints of time, cost, and scope.
  • Tools: Expert-level proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, or other products in the market used to track and report on project progress.
Desirable Skills
  • AI for Delivery Management: Leveraging AI tools to optimise delivery plans. This includes using AI for predictive analytics to forecast project timelines and potential risks, automating resource allocation based on team capacity and skill sets, and generating data-driven insights to improve overall project efficiency and decision-making.
  • Vendor and Supplier Management: Specific experience in managing relationships and delivery plans with key technology partners.
  • Domain Expertise: Prior experience in digital media, publishing, subscription based business. This will allow for a quicker understanding of business goals and technical complexities.
