The Role

As a Buyer (Technical) at TBS Engineering, you will be part of the procurement team responsible for sourcing technically complex components manufactured to TBS specifications. This role is suited to an individual with a strong engineering background, either within procurement or a practical engineering environment, who understands manufacturing processes and supplier capability.

You will manage the full procurement lifecycle for assigned commodities, ensuring suppliers meet business requirements for cost, quality, and delivery, while supporting supplier audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete daily procurement transactions including order placement, expediting, quality issue resolution, and clearance of payment queries
  • Maintain accurate MRP part and purchase order information
  • Source components from suitable suppliers to meet both commercial and technical requirements
  • Develop and manage suppliers for assigned commodities to ensure key performance targets are achieved
  • Support the development of commodity strategies, ensuring capacity, capability, quality, cost, and supply chain risk are understood
  • Support sourcing projects and supplier approval activities as required
  • Assist with supplier audits and implement supplier improvement plans in collaboration with the Procurement Quality Assurance Specialist
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments including production, design, stores, and accounts
  • Identify opportunities for process, productivity, and quality improvements
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and customers to ensure best outcomes for TBS
  • Follow all workplace management rules and procurement processes consistently
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and accountability at all times

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Strong engineering background with the ability to read and interpret technical specifications for milled and turned components
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and supplier capability assessment
  • Analytical, detail-oriented approach with strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in supplier identification, qualification, and supply chain risk assessment
  • Excellent communication skills with procurement teams, internal stakeholders, and suppliers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to plan strategically and manage priorities effectively
  • Self-motivated with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism
