A leading engineering company in Tees Valley seeks an Engineering and Technical Manager to oversee production standards and manage a team of engineers. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in engineering, possess strong leadership skills, and have experience in welding and fabrication environments. As the Engineering and Technical Manager, you will be responsible for establishing, controlling, and maintaining the production standards of operation, including welding technology, processing reliability, and equipment performance. Your role will also involve providing leadership in process innovation and development.
• Ensure production standards for welding technology, process reliability, and equipment standard times are established and maintained.
• Reduce the cost of poor quality (COPQ) through continuous improvement principles.
• Oversee production engineering requirements at a project level, ensuring work instructions, process drawings, and tooling designs are provided.
• Conduct research, development, and innovation to stay competitive and enhance operational efficiency.
• Prioritize safety, ensuring working processes and product handling are carried out safely.
• Collaborate closely with the production team to maintain operational standards and controls.
• Lead a team of production and welding engineers, guiding them through change programs and encouraging them to embrace change.
• Create and maintain efficient working procedures and identify opportunities for improvement in engineering tools and methodologies.
• Approve engineering documentation as necessary and assess new tenders and bids to identify future investment needs, including tooling and process improvements.
A bachelor's degree (or higher) in an engineering discipline and knowledge of continuous improvement tools such as PDCA, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, 5 Whys, and APQP4Wind.
Demonstrated leadership skills in production engineering, with experience in welding, fabrication, and machining environments.
Passion for developing engineering talent and an innovative approach to engineering execution.
Membership (or Fellowship) in a recognized professional institution is preferred.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
