Job description

Team Leader/Operations Manager - Harrogate

Our client is currently looking for a Team Leader/Operations Manager to work from their Head Office located near Harrogate North Yorkshire.

This opportunity has resulted in an internal promotion where the previous person performing this role is now a Director of the company. It is therefore an excellent time to be joining the business, as the company has big growth plans and you be an integral part of this journey and progress within..

Within this role, you would have full responsibility for all aspects of the broking team, looking at processes, compliance, report writing, and be the most senior person within the team. Although there would be limited broking responsibilities, you would be one of the main points of contact for their key clients, where you will build up a good rapport and long-term relationships.

Due to the being responsible for the team, ideally you will need to have a good understanding of the various commercial insurance markets and their underwriting guidelines/capacities, are competent and technically strong on most classes of commercial insurance. It is therefore essential that you can communicate at all levels and have previously worked within a broking/intermediary environment and or commercial broking/account handler role.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the performance of a team
  • Assist with the professional development of the team
  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of the team
  • Set objectives for the team and manage their progression towards these

Operations:

  • Maintain and monitor the flow of work to ensure items and issues are addressed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and User Guides accurately reflect current procedures
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of any data quality issues that are raised

Broking Assistance

  • Client Audits
  • Key Relationships – General liaison with clients, other company relationships externally
  • Query Management – To monitor and control queries, seeking advice where required
  • Peer review – To attend peer review meetings where appropriate
  • Regulatory Issues – To be aware of the regulatory impact and ensure activity is always within the guidelines

Skills and Experience:

  • Good overall educational passes
  • Progression towards the ACII professional qualification encouraged
  • Demonstrable team leader experience and skills would be advantageous, although the business would consider experienced brokers wishes to make the next step up
  • Sound knowledge of general, commercial insurance
  • Commercial awareness, with a knowledge of the insurance market and external changes which would impact on the business
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory and legal compliance issues
  • Excellent numeric, analytical and written skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Effective prioritisation and organisational skills
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
