Job summary

Overview

Job Title: Teaching Assistant – Secondary (Special Educational Needs). Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester. Salary: £89-£95 per day. Contract Type: Full-time. Working Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the lead teacher to implement and adapt lesson plans that accommodate the individual needs of students, specifically those with ADHD and autism.
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students, both inside and outside the classroom, to enhance their learning and social skills.
  • Assist with the development of students\' educational and behavioural management plans.
  • Monitor and support students\' progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Employ strategies to manage challenging behaviors in a positive and effective manner.
  • Facilitate a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Help with the preparation of teaching materials, equipment, and resources as required.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, therapists, and professionals involved in the wellbeing and education of the students.
  • Play an active role in responding to and de-escalating crisis situations with the students\' safety and security as a priority.
  • Maintain accurate records on students’ progress and any incidents that occur.
Requirements
  • Proven secondary school experience, preferably as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Direct experience working with students with ADHD, autism, and those exhibiting challenging behaviors.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A current DBS check on the update service is required.
  • Calm and patient demeanor with the ability to handle students in crisis situations effectively.
  • A collaborative spirit, willing to work as part of a team for the benefit of students’ education and welfare.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs and challenges of the school environment.
