SEND Teaching Assistant – Leatherhead, Surrey | SEND | Milk Education

Milk Education is looking for a compassionate and reliable SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school supporting students in primary & secondary with Autism and associated behavioural and communication needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives by supporting their learning, wellbeing, and personal development in a caring environment.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Help ensure every child has the best chance to reach their full potential.
  • Supporting children with learning and general wellbeing, helping them feel safe and confident.
  • Using positive behaviour management techniques to support challenging behaviour where needed, tailored to individual children.
  • Contributing to risk assessments and behaviour support strategies to help children access education and develop life skills.
  • Building positive, warm, and supportive relationships with pupils to encourage independence, personal development, and enjoyment in learning.
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning and delivering engaging, differentiated activities to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Being flexible and ready to support wherever needed, as SEN environments often require a hands‑on and adaptable approach.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Experience working with children with SEN, either in an employed or voluntary setting.
  • Recognised Level 2 (or above) qualification in Support Work for Teaching & Learning in Schools, or equivalent (desirable).
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with children with SEN, SEMH, or ASD.
  • Ability to provide consistent, patient support and treat every child as an individual.
  • Creativity and positivity in meeting pupils’ individual needs.
  • Willingness to be part of the school’s behaviour support approach, including accredited Team Teach where necessary.
  • Ability to complete reports accurately and on time.
