Teaching Assistant (ASD Specialist)

Milk Education is recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants with a specialism in Autism (ASD) to join mainstream schools across St Helens, working on a long-term or short-term basis, starting immediately.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to develop their communication, independence, and confidence in a nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ASD, helping them to engage and progress in learning.

Use structured strategies and communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables to support understanding.

Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through patience, consistency, and encouragement.

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver personalised learning and monitor progress.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

Experience working with pupils with Autism (ASD) or other special educational needs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a calm and empathetic approach.

Ability to implement individual support strategies and follow EHCP targets.

A patient, caring, and resilient attitude with a genuine passion for SEN support.
