Job description
Teaching Assistant – Main and Specialist Unit

Full Time, Term Time plus 1 week (possibility of Part Time)

FTE : £25,185 - £25,989 per annum

Pro rata £19,753 - £20,753 per annum(including holiday pay)

Ixworth High School is a small high school set in the picturesque Suffolk countryside. We are generally over‑subscribed and will have around 550 pupils in the school by September 2026.

The school is currently judged good across all areas by Ofsted in April 2025. The inspection team noted that “Ixworth is a happy school, where pupils know they are safe and well cared for”. They also noted the pupils behave well, are polite and engaging, with calm and purposeful classrooms.

The school's vision is to provide an education system that truly serves those it educates by always reflecting on and addressing individual needs, strengths, and interests. There is a Specialist Unit on site for around 20 pupils, supporting pupils with Communication & Interaction needs, these students are fully integrated into the main school.

The school showed much improved results in 2025 and was among the top twenty most improved schools in England for attainment and English.

THE ROLE
  • To support students to learn effectively in the classroom following direction from the class teacher.
  • May invigilate exams and tests.
  • May assist escorting pupils on educational visits.
  • May assist with break time supervision including facilitating games and activities.
  • Communicates with pupils to support learning and development and encourage acceptable behaviour.
  • Exchanges information with staff and parents / carers.
  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff.
  • Support pupils to understand instructions.
  • Support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils.
  • Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task.
