A prestigious educational institution in the United Kingdom is seeking an inspiring English teacher to engage students throughout their academic journey. The successful candidate will have a strong passion for literature and a commitment to fostering a love of reading among pupils. The role includes planning and delivering dynamic lessons across the curriculum and actively contributing to departmental co-curricular activities. Competitive remuneration, professional development, and excellent benefits including free accommodation are offered.
We are looking for an inspiring English teacher to teach throughout the school. We are a large Department of highly qualified teachers who foster academic excellence through a shared a love of reading. We wish for the boys in our care to gain the beginnings of an appreciation of literature, something that we hope will accompany them through their adult lives.
Our teaching combines traditional methods with the thoughtful use of digital technologies. Every year group benefits from access to early editions and manuscripts in the College Archive and our School Library is exceptionally well resourced. Beyond the classroom, the Department provides a vibrant super-curricular that includes long-established societies (our Literary Society is over 150 years old!), visiting lecturers, reading and writing groups, and theatre trips. We also contribute significantly to the schools partnership programmes, maintaining close links with local and London schools.
All boys study English in their first three years. In Years 10 and 11, they follow the CAIE IGCSE in Literature and Language. Our English Literature A-Level is with OCR where we teach early modern poetry and drama, the American novel 1880-1940, with room given to our teachers to choose their own coursework texts. Results are excellent and teaching here is a joy. Our English at University programme runs over two terms, is thorough and wide-ranging, with many boys in securing places at leading UK and international universities. The depth of experience and expertise within our department means that we are equally as comfortable in developing and supporting recent graduates or new entrants to the profession as we are in welcoming more experienced teachers to the team.
Due to the needs of the school and the department, we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date. This job may also close early if a large number of applications are received. You are advised to submit your application as early as possible to avoid missing your chance to apply.

All members of our community are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the school and to enjoy the beautiful grounds and facilities. The school is part of the picturesque village of Eton with plenty of restaurants, pubs and coffee shops and is just over the bridge from the beautiful town of Windsor. Eton is a short walk from Windsor Riverside Station, with regular trains to Waterloo. Eton is only a short drive from Slough station with 17 minute train services to Paddington, along with the Elizabeth Line offering a direct line into central London. This makes it very commutable for those living in Eton. Proximity to Heathrow and the M4 and M25 mean that it is incredibly well connected and easy to get to.
There is enormous collegiality at the school. As one new teacher said : This is my fourth school and Ive never been made to feel so welcome. Colleagues are also genuinely interested in the scholarship of their subject and enjoy a level of autonomy in their teaching that allows them to develop their own effective style.
