Job Description:

HM Revenue and Customs is looking for a Tax Specialist in Crypto Assets based in Manchester. The role involves leading the identification of emerging tax risks within Crypto assets and designing compliance solutions using HMRC's Promote, Prevent, Respond framework. The position offers opportunities to influence strategy, shape initiatives, and contribute to international efforts in this rapidly evolving field.

The successful candidate will represent the sector in various forums, lead discussions, and may be required to travel.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading analysis of tax risks related to Crypto Assets such as trading, investment, mining, staking, and DeFi.
  • Anticipating emerging behaviors, business models, and technologies that could pose risks.
  • Designing and implementing compliance strategies tailored to the Crypto environment.
  • Embedding solutions across HMRC to promote compliance and respond to tax risks.
  • Providing expert advice on crypto-related tax issues.
  • Collaborating with operational, legal, policy, and intelligence teams.
  • Contributing to internal capability development through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Supporting broader compliance objectives within the Wealthy segment.

Applicants must have completed at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACCA)
  • HMRC Tax Specialist Programme or predecessors
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister with tax experience

Salary and Benefits:

Salary ranges from £56,344 to £62,590 (London: £63,397 to £70,422). Higher starting pay may be offered based on experience.
