Working Hours: Casual, Flexible around your current commitments

Are you passionate about swimming?

Here at Shropshire Leisure Trust, our goal is to encourage active, healthy lifestyles in an environment that is safe, warm, clean, friendly, and fun. We aim to be the destination of choice for being part of an active community, helping you to make MORE of every day. To deliver these services, we are looking to recruit enthusiastic and customer-focused Swimming Teachers to join our team.

We follow the tried and tested Swim England learn to swim framework to develop swimmers' confidence through fun and enjoyable lessons. Many of our swimmers have progressed to swim competitively and even to represent our country.

We have various positions available at our Quarry, Oswestry, and Market Drayton Leisure Centres.

As a swimming teacher, you will deliver safe, fun, and progressive lessons. We also support your career and personal development by contracting you for as many or as few hours as you wish, based on your current commitments.

We cover the costs for safeguarding and DBS checks, and you do not need to hold your own personal insurance, as you will be covered by ours. Working with us provides access to all our leisure centres and excellent training and learning opportunities through our in-house Aquatic Training Academy, which offers ongoing CPD in swimming teaching.

There is a clear career pathway, with opportunities to progress into management or other areas within the business.

All teachers receive a free membership for themselves and a friend or family member to enjoy our facilities.

Serco manages these facilities on behalf of the Trust.

What you’ll need to do the role

You should have excellent customer service skills and be comfortable dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds.

You need to hold either a STA Award/Certificate in Teaching Swimming or Swim England (Previously ASA) Level 2 qualification.

Having a valid RLSS UK NPLQ, RLSS UK NRASTC, or STA Safety Award for Teachers is advantageous but not essential, as we can provide training to complete these courses free of charge.

If you do not currently hold the relevant qualifications, but are interested in starting a career with us, we often run training courses with qualified Swimming Teacher Tutors across our locations. Please submit your application, and we will contact you when a course is scheduled near you.

This role requires a DBS check.

Why Join us

A place you can make an impact: Swimming promotes health and happiness and teaches lifelong skills. As a teacher, you will help people develop these skills.

A place you can count on: Our swimming teachers are vital to our centres' operations, with opportunities to advance into aquatics coordination or other management roles.

A place for you: Teaching offers a sense of accomplishment as you see your students progress. We support your growth with ongoing training and development.
