What we are recruiting for:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Manager to support our growing sustainability function. The successful candidate will join the existing business to deliver outstanding sustainable solutions for our clients. This will be a diverse role which will allow the individual to work in both the Construction and Consulting businesses.

The scope of the Sustainability Manager
  • Set the vision for projects in line with the Bovis Sustainability targets, client targets and regulatory requirements (e.g. planning obligations)
  • Lead sustainability in the development of new work for the business through delivery of tender responses and sustainability strategies to ensure client brief and Bovis sustainability targets are achieved
  • Input into project sustainability strategies and procurement documents, as required, including input into project briefs, design briefs, base build design requirements, building contracts, leasing documents, consultant scopes and employer’s requirements
  • Support and monitor projects for sustainability performance against Bovis’s Sustainability, Environmental and project targets
  • Identify mitigation strategies when sustainability risks are identified on projects
  • Drive innovation and best practice across projects
  • Support the central sustainability function with reporting and work winning requirements

The Sustainability Manager will also have responsibility for sharing knowledge and best practices across the team to ensure consistency and efficiency of the delivery of sustainability.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop the sustainability plan for each project which captures vision, client and Bovis ambitions, obligations and requirements
  • Contribute to the selection and scope of external consultants to ensure effective delivery of the sustainability approach
  • Identifying innovative approaches to bring to the client and projects
  • Working with the projects to identify carbon and circularity savings
  • Enable project teams to meet project sustainability targets and ensure compliance with contractual requirements and Bovis minimum standard
  • Participate in the delivery of sustainability training and upskilling of Bovis employees, design consultants and subcontractors
  • Hosting sustainability workshops, briefings, and governance sessions
  • Working with project teams to ensure environmental compliance, alignment with ISO 14001, and efficiency on the construction projects
  • Working with the supply chain on how they can contribute to delivering sustainable outcomes
  • Represent sustainability for Bovis internally and externally and with relevant stakeholders as part of client engagement
  • Share knowledge on sustainability issues, best practices across the business and innovations to standardise practices and gain efficiencies
  • Support bids and ensure that we gain value from our positive sustainability performance
  • Engage with industry working groups and partners (e.g., Concrete Zero) to ensure Bovis involvement in key industry initiatives

Experience & background:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering sustainability performance for projects
  • Knowledge of key sustainability-related regulations, planning requirements and design codes, nationally and regionally
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience
  • Strong analytical, rigorous approach to sustainability data and the performance of construction projects
  • Business minded, able to articulate the value and benefits of sustainability, compliance, reporting, etc
  • Ability to deliver multiple tasks to time
  • Ability to influence at all levels and be seen as a sustainability lead for the organisation
  • Passionate about environmental, social and economic sustainability
  • BREEAM Assessor (Desirable)
  • WELL Assessor (Desirable)
  • Chartership in a relevant Sustainability field (Desirable)
