Job description
Overview

Sharpsmart, a leader in healthcare waste management and sustainability solutions, is looking for an experienced Sustainability Coordinator to drive forward our environmental strategy and deliver meaningful impact across the UK business.

This role is about more than compliance. We are looking for someone who can integrate sustainability into the commercial heart of our operations, ensuring our business growth and environmental commitments go hand-in-hand. You will shape initiatives that reduce carbon emissions, strengthen our position in the waste industry, and support our customers’ sustainability goals.

This role can be hybrid based 3 days on site and 2 days remote, with regular travel to Sharpsmart sites a requirement for this role.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the development and delivery of Sharpsmart UK Carbon Reduction Strategy, setting clear roadmaps and measurable targets to achieve our Net Zero 2040 goal
  • Embed sustainable practices into business operations and decision-making, working with leaders across logistics, treatment facilities, and customer services
  • Coordinate cross-functional sustainability focus groups, building ownership at all levels while aligning with global initiatives
  • Monitor and report progress against key metrics using sustainability dashboards, ensuring performance data is accurate and commercially relevant for both senior leadership and customers
  • Stay ahead of waste industry and environmental trends, identifying new technologies, risks, and opportunities to keep Sharpsmart at the forefront of sustainable innovation
  • Support tender and bid teams with strong, evidence-based sustainability responses that demonstrate value to NHS trusts, private healthcare providers, and other partners
  • Collaborate with our CSR committee to expand social value initiatives, ensuring we meet both regulatory expectations and customer-driven sustainability requirements
Candidate profile
  • Proven experience in sustainability or environmental management within the waste management, recycling, or environmental services sector
  • Strong understanding of carbon reduction strategies, regulatory frameworks, and industry reporting requirements
  • The ability to balance sustainability priorities with commercial outcomes, ensuring initiatives deliver both environmental and business value
  • Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams, and represent Sharpsmart in customer and industry forums
  • Knowledge of upcoming technologies, industry best practices, and social value frameworks relevant to the waste sector
  • Driving license and willing to travel

At Sharpsmart, sustainability is not an add-on – it’s built into everything we do. From helping healthcare providers reduce their environmental footprint to driving innovation in the treatment of clinical waste, you’ll be part of a team that makes a tangible impact. This is your opportunity to shape how sustainability drives both performance and purpose in a business with international reach and strong UK growth ambitions.
