About Sam

Sam is 18 years old and is a bright and intuitive young man, with an infectious sense of humour! Sam thrives when supported by people who can build trust and respect. As a result of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Sam has Cerebral Palsy, learning needs, a visual impairment, and epilepsy (well managed with medication). He can struggle with transitions and likes to know what is happening now. Sam has made remarkable physical progress thanks to his team’s enthusiasm and encouragement – he goes to the gym regularly and has developed core strength that supports him with transfers and other activities. Sam loves music and singing – “Proud Mary” is a current favourite; he always wants to get out onto the dance floor when it’s on! Sam also enjoys spending time outdoors, including adventurous trips to the Calvert Trust, swimming, arts and crafts, and socialising with his friends. (Some activities are 2:1, such as swimming). With the right support, Sam will continue to develop both physically and socially.

Role Overview

In this hands‑on, dynamic support role you will work closely with Sam in all aspects of his daily life. You will support him with personal care and mobility, including transfers and gym activities, while encouraging participation in hobbies, recreational activities, and new challenges. You will play an active part in social and recreational activities, including music, dance, and outings, and will be key in building a strong, trusting relationship with Sam. During the night shift, Sam sleeps well; he may occasionally call out if he needs his blanket replaced, though he is making great progress in putting this back on himself.
