Job description

Buxton Nursery Ltd are looking to employ a happy, smiley and hardworking individual who is committed and passionate about supporting and supervising babies and children.

Skills required include excellent communication skills, working as part of a team, good use of initiative, empathy and understanding. Candidates must complete relevant training including first aid, safeguarding and food hygiene. An enhanced DBS check is required. Buxton Nursery Ltd are committed to promoting the welfare of children and all staff have a duty of care to understand and follow our child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures. This position is annual and the successful candidate must be able to work all year round except for the closure at Christmas and bank holidays. A level 3 qualification is desirable but not essential. A full clean driving license is desirable.

Post objective

To provide nursery care and education for children 3 months to 5 years.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide nursery care for all children within the nursery 3 months – 5 years. Ensure that all children’s needs are met in a caring and understanding way.
  2. Effectively and enthusiastically carry out all duties.
  3. Work closely with all other team members and liaise with all members of staff at Buxton Infant School so the nursery can build good relations with all staff and ensure the smooth running of the nursery on the school premises.
  4. Carry out a wide variety of activities suitable for the ages 3 months – 5 years. Assist in meeting the needs of a child through planning programmes of learning to assist a child in specific areas.
  5. Be aware of safeguarding procedures and how to report any concerns. Draw attention to the supervisor of any specific needs or concerns.
  6. Maintain confidentiality at all times in relation to all aspects of care of the children both inside and outside the nursery.
  7. Assist in the cleanliness and good repair of the nursery and its equipment.
  8. Prepare and provide simple snacks for the children.
  9. Be aware of nursery policies and procedures and ensure these are complied with at all times. Keep up-to-date with the nursery’s Health and Safety policies and perform duties in accordance to these.
  10. Actively and positively promote the nursery’s policy on Equality of Opportunity. Be a positive role model for the children.
  11. Review and discuss personal training and attend courses and training related to the job. All staff are required to attend in-house CPD training when available in addition to the core training required by Derbyshire County Council. Core training includes: First Aid (minimum 12 hours), Equal Opportunities, Additional Needs, Safeguarding Children, Basic Food Hygiene, Health and Safety.
  12. Work closely and value input from parents in relation to their child and the nursery. Work with other adults to help meet the needs of the children and their families e.g., social worker or health worker.
  13. Undertake any other reasonable duty within the nursery setting in accordance with the level of responsibility of the job.
  14. Form good working relationships with school staff and respect the school buildings and property.
Additional Information

Please note the position is for supply cover; sometimes hours will be available last minute on an ad hoc basis and at other times cover will be prearranged for planned holidays and additional activities.
