Job summary

A leading engineering firm in the UK is seeking an individual for their Supplier Quality Assurance function. This role focuses on ensuring high-quality products from suppliers through partnership development and management. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in engineering and exhibit strong problem-solving and communication skills. Key responsibilities include supplier assessments, collaboration with design teams, and generating quality inspection reports. The position requires occasional travel within the UK and abroad.

Qualifications

  • Professionally tactful when engaging with various stakeholders.
  • Awareness of ISO9001 quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Capture quality problem statements from suppliers.

Job description

Salary up to £45,000 depending on experience. We are looking for a motivated individual to support our Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) function, helping to ensure that our suppliers consistently deliver high-quality products and processes that meet Renishaws standards and contribute to our operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Work with multiple manufacturing functions to capture purchased item quality problem statements
  • Partner with, and visit, external suppliers to support the development and management of new and existing suppliers
  • Collaborate with Design teams to understand critical features, tolerances, and performance requirements
  • Work with Purchasing to identify, assess, and develop new suppliers in line with commodity strategies
  • Support Purchasing in mitigating future production supply risks
  • Work closely with Goods-In Inspection to ensure effective management and inspection of incoming goods
  • Generate clear, structured reports presenting inspection outcomes or quality investigation findings
  • Identify opportunities for improved process control and/or design-for-manufacture (DFM) cost-down initiatives
  • Take ownership of departmental metrics and work to agreed targets
  • Conduct and document supplier visits and assessments
  • Proactively develop personal technical skills and knowledge to support evolving role requirements
  • Own, coordinate, and deliver defined strategic or profile project
Key requirements
  • Degree level qualifications in an engineering/manufacturing discipline
  • Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with stakeholders
  • Driven, self-motivated and willing to learn and contribute
  • Knowledge of engineering and inspection techniques and equipment
  • Awareness of quality systems e.g. ISO9001
Person specification

You will need sound problem solving mindset and a logical approach to varied technical challenges. You will need to be self-motivated and able to learn quickly, work independently and deliver with limited local support; as well as maintain a professional behaviour to interact with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Visiting suppliers is a key requirement so the individual must be prepared for some travel UK and abroad.
