Job description

Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Computer Graphics

Overview

Subject Matter Expert (SME) is pivotal in shaping engaging, relevant, and high-quality online learning experiences for the new Computer Graphics module. As SME, you will collaborate closely with Learning Experience Designers, Developers, IT, and client stakeholders, providing expert content aligned to the module’s learning outcomes and objectives.

This role operates within a dynamic, fast-paced, and project-driven environment, requiring strong communication, collaboration, and flexibility to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.

Course Description

This module provides students with an immersive exploration into the world of computer-generated imagery, combining theoretical foundations and practical applications. Learners will master principles, techniques, and diverse industry uses of computer graphics, from entertainment and design to simulation and visualisation. Students progress from core components of 2D graphics (digital imaging, rasterisation, drawing, rendering) to 3D graphics, geometric modelling, and spatial transformations. Additional topics include shading, lighting, rendering pipelines, texture mapping, procedural modelling, animation, and real-world applications. The module prepares students for careers in computer graphics, animation, game development, VR/AR, and digital media production.

Course Details

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of computer graphics principles and techniques, covering key areas such as digital imaging, rasterisation, and rendering fundamentals. Learners will deepen their understanding of 2D graphics by drawing, transforming, and editing visual elements using industry-standard software, then progress to geometric transformations and advanced viewing techniques for working with both 2D and 3D objects. The curriculum examines 3D modelling and rendering methods, guiding students on how to construct complex objects and scenes reflective of real-world environments. Shading and lighting models are emphasised, illustrating how light and material interaction results in realistic graphics. Texture mapping and procedural methods are also explored, along with core principles of animation for creating visually engaging, dynamic projects. The module is designed to prepare students for a wide range of technical and creative roles in fields where computer graphics knowledge is essential.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of computer graphics concepts and techniques
  • Apply geometric transformations and rendering methods in 2D/3D
  • Critically evaluate and implement shading/lighting for realistic graphics
  • Use graphics software and coding for algorithm development
  • Design compelling visuals and animations for multiple platforms
  • Adapt to new tools and technologies through self-directed exploration
Work Commitment

Engagement: 60 hours in total
Start: ASAP
Duration: 3 months (short-term contract - 60 hours spread across 3 months)
