ABOUT THE ROLE

Job Title: Sub-Editor (Companionship/Magazines)

Reporting to: Production Manager

Location: Dundee or Glasgow, Scotland,United Kingdom

Ways of Working: UK,Hybrid(at least 1 day a week in the office/every Tuesday)

Contract Type: Fulltime,Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) until 10th October 2026

ROLE PURPOSE
The opportunity:

DC Thomson is looking for a Sub-Editor to playan important rolewithin our Companionship production team. Reporting into a Production Manager, Sub-Editors will work acrossallocatedbrands including The People's Friend and My Weekly, ensuring the publication of high quality,accurateand engaging content in line with style guides of the publication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
What will you be doing as Sub-Editor?
  • Working closely with the Production Managers, the central designteamand editorial staff in contributing to the delivery and publication of titles both ongoing/regular publishing as well as ad hoc publications.
  • Responding to business needs, working across brands showing a flexibility and ability to adapt todifferent styles,systemsand audiences.
  • Working to agreed production and approval schedules.
  • Sub-editing content with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Writing, rewriting,editingand proofreading text ensuring that stories are the right length.
  • Writing compelling display lines that suit house style and appeal to the target audience.
  • Verifying information and story details to confirm accuracy of stories and that they meet legal requirements.
  • Liaising with in-house editorial and design staff to ensure transfer ofaccuratecopy andtimelysubmissionin accordance withagreed procedures.
  • Assisting Editors/Content Editors whennecessarywith completion and delivery of content to print or digital platforms.
  • Using page layout, imageeditingand approved AI software whereappropriate.
  • Displaying a willingness to undertake any trainingrequiredto improve skillset across software and familiarity of brand style guidelines.
