Overview

An exciting opportunity within Student Services for a Student Advisor. This full-time, 12-month fixed-term post may be reviewed later. The role requires a can-do attitude, excellent teamwork and the ability to deliver excellent customer service during demanding and busy periods.

Student Services provide academic and pastoral information, advice and guidance to current and prospective students. The successful candidate will be part of a team and will undertake a range of administrative and clerical duties to support the wider Student Services department.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and pastoral information, advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders including current and prospective students.
  • Support the wider Student Services department through a range of administrative and clerical duties.
  • Process and assess applications from students seeking financial support, advise and assist students applying for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), and utilise the student records system for the production of letters, references and council tax exemption forms.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain a confidential, helpful and cooperative manner when working under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of the Student Services team; support other teams such as Reception and the Life Lounge; may deliver a service from other locations (e.g., Queens Specialist Building, Greater Manchester Business School or Institute of Medical Sciences).
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and creative ways of working; ability to support the delivery of new projects and the advancement of service provision.
  • Experience of working with a diverse student body and demonstrated sensitivity to individual differences.
  • Flexible approach to working patterns/hours; ability to manage competing deadlines and use initiative.
