Job Title: Structural Engineer - Residential Homes

Location: Manchester (Hybrid/Office-based)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Manchester, working primarily on residential housing projects. The role involves the design, analysis, and delivery of structural solutions for new-build and refurbishment residential properties, including low- to medium-rise housing developments. You will work closely with architects, developers, and contractors to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural designs in line with UK standards and best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design structural elements for residential buildings, including foundations, steel, timber, masonry, and reinforced concrete
  • Prepare structural calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Carry out site visits, inspections, and surveys as required
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, and British Standards
  • Liaise with clients, architects, local authorities, and contractors
  • Provide technical support during construction and respond to site queries
  • Manage multiple projects and meet agreed deadlines and budgets
  • Assist with mentoring junior engineers and technicians where appropriate
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 2+ years' experience working on UK residential projects (houses, extensions, low-rise apartments)
  • Strong knowledge of Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations
  • Experience with structural design software (e.g. Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD, ETABS, Robot, or similar)
  • Ability to produce clear calculations and drawings
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred, due to site visits)
Desirable
  • Working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStructE)
  • Experience with timber frame and domestic steelwork design
  • Familiarity with Party Wall matters and domestic alterations
  • Experience liaising directly with homeowners and developers
