Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Structural/Stress Engineer with nuclear experience for a hybrid role in Derby. You will conduct structural analysis, focusing on seismic and blast assessments, produce detailed reports, and support engineering projects. The ideal candidate possesses strong skills in using LS-DYNA and ANSYS. This position offers a competitive hourly rate of £45-£50, contract duration of 12 months, and involves 2-3 days of remote work per week.

Qualifications

  • Proven nuclear (or similarly regulated) engineering experience.
  • Strong structural analysis / stress background.
  • Experience delivering seismic analysis.
  • Blast/shock analysis experience or strong nonlinear dynamics exposure.
  • Proficient with LS-DYNA and/or ANSYS.
  • Able to work independently and produce traceable, auditable documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural/stress analysis in a nuclear environment.
  • Perform seismic analysis using response spectra or time history.
  • Support blast/shock/impact analysis as required.
  • Build, run and interpret FE models with LS-DYNA and/or ANSYS.
  • Produce calculation packs and clear engineering recommendations.
  • Collaborate with design and project teams to resolve technical issues.

Structural / Stress Engineer (Nuclear) - Seismic & Blast (LS-DYNA / ANSYS)

Location: Derby (Hybrid - 2/3 days WFH)

Contract: 12 months

Rate: £45-£50 per hour

IR35: Outside IR35

We're looking for a Structural/Stress Engineer with nuclear experience to support structural analysis work including seismic and blast/shock assessments. You'll deliver high-quality FEA and clear substantiation reports to support design decisions on regulated projects.

Key responsibilities
  • Structural/stress analysis and design substantiation in a nuclear environment
  • Seismic analysis (response spectra / time history as required)
  • Blast/shock/impact analysis support (as required)
  • Build, run and interpret FE models using LS-DYNA and/or ANSYS
  • Produce calculation packs, reports and clear engineering recommendations
  • Liaise with design and project teams to resolve technical issues
