Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available for a proactive and safety-focused Strategic Asset Technician to join our team in Bournemouth on a full time, permanent basis. You’ll play a key role in maintaining our assets, supporting operational activities, and ensuring we continue to deliver high-quality drinking water and excellent customer service. This is a varied, hands‑on role that involves planned and reactive work, problem‑solving, and participation in standby and call‑out rotas.

What You’ll Be Doing

Follow all Health, Safety & Security policies and standards at all times. Carry out maintenance tasks on a wide range of network assets, including service reservoirs, pressure‑reducing valves, network fittings and pumping stations. Plan and deliver routine and reactive reservoir cleaning. Use inspection tools such as CCTV and ROV equipment. Work in line with all QMS procedures and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of them. Ensure environmental protection requirements are met during maintenance activities. Support supply interruption mitigation techniques, both in planned and reactive situations, including out‑of‑hours deployment. Contribute to wider water distribution operations such as trunk main walking, mains flushing and non‑highway excavations for leaks or asset access. Undertake valve and fitting servicing and replacements. Prevent contamination during all tasks and know how to respond in the event of an incident. Participate in call‑out and standby rotas as required. Maintain positive relationships with customers, colleagues, public authorities and other stakeholders through high levels of customer service. All of the above will require you to work at height and in confined spaces. A full, valid driving licence is required, along with the ability and willingness to tow large trailers when operationally necessary.

What We’re Looking For
  • A good standard of education, including GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene Certificate.
  • Ability to deliver work to regulatory deadlines, including reporting requirements.
  • A flexible, adaptable approach to daily tasks, with the ability to respond quickly to incidents.
  • Proven experience in a water supply environment.
  • Ability to maintain buildings and structures.
  • A background in delivering high‑quality internal and external customer service.
  • Familiarity with GIS systems and related digital tools.
  • Experience in utilities, pipeline construction or street works.
  • You must live within 45 minutes of our operational area of supply.
  • You must have a full driving licence and be willing and able to tow large trailers as required.

  • Generous holiday allowance plus bank holidays
  • A discretionary Bonus
  • Competitive Contributory Pension Share‑save Scheme
  • Various health benefits
  • Wellbeing support programmes
  • A range of Group Discounts
