Job summary

Are you a compassionate and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse looking to make a real difference in the lives of older people living with dementia? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

St Brelades Ward at Alderney Hospital is a specialist male dementia ward, providing high-quality, person-centred care for individuals experiencing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). We are currently recruiting a Registered Nurse to cover maternity leave who is passionate about delivering outstanding care in a supportive and dynamic team.

We are looking for an individual who can provide confident shift leadership, work collaboratively, and bring excellent communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills. A caring, compassionate attitude and the ability to work with initiative are essential for this role.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a high quality person-centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.
  • Undertake assessment of patients/service users care needs, and develop programmes of care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.
  • Provide advice to patients/service users and carers regarding their care.
  • Plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and junior staff in the team.

Person Specification
Knowledge, skills and training – Essential
  • Registered Nurse, RMN, or RNLD, with recent experience working with patients with organic mental illness
  • Understanding of ICPA and Risk Assessment and Management of Risk
  • Ability to work with clients who present with challenging behaviour
Job specific experience – Essential
  • Previous experience of working with mental health clients in hospital or community setting
  • Understanding of medication management issues
  • Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct
Desirable
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act
