Job summary

A major healthcare provider in Liverpool is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Respiratory Support Unit. Respiratory Support Unit

The Respiratory Support Unit is a 10‑beded unit which provides care to the acutely unwell adult in respiratory distress. This can range from providing non‑invasive ventilation to patients in Type‑2 Respiratory failure to dealing with adults with more complex health needs.

We strive to provide a high level of holistic care to our patients; we work closely with our multi‑disciplinary colleagues and value and respect each other. We are an extremely supportive team who encourage learning and development at every opportunity.

Respiratory nursing gives you acute dynamic skills which are transferable.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop professionally in this exciting domain of Respiratory medicine, specialising in non‑invasive ventilation. The respiratory unit offers a supportive and learning environment which endeavours to constantly develop the service, in order that our patients can receive the highest quality and most up‑to‑date care.

The Unit welcomes experienced Registered Nurses with prior experience in respiratory nursing preferred. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.

Key responsibilities
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care. Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Provide information and support to patients/carers, and ensure all those involved in the care are aware of changes in patients' condition.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
Qualifications & competencies
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an acceptable registration.
  • Experience in respiratory nursing is preferred.
  • Caring, compassionate and positive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and promote multidisciplinary collaboration.
