Job description
Overview

We are delighted to share we have vacancies for band 5 staff nurses to join the endoscopy team at Bishop Auckland following our expansion and refurbishment of the unit. We welcome both experienced and newly qualified staff nurses.

Within endoscopy no two days are the same, we are looking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic, forward thinking nurses, to help provide a safe high quality service to patients trust wide.

The endoscopy service provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients carried out within our 4 procedure rooms. We are also proud to being accredited for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Our nurses ensure the safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients, as well as assisting our Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room. Patients attend the endoscopy department for various different endoscopic procedures; colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy as well as some therapeutic procedures. Patients are referred into the endoscopy service via different routes; GP referrals, surveillance programmes, bowel cancer screening programmes or referred via the multi-disciplinary team.

We are proud to provide a comprehensive in house training programme which ensures nurses feel supported and competent in their abilities. We also participate in a out of hours on call rota with Darlington Memorial Hospital acute site.

Responsibilities
  • Support safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients.
  • Assist Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room.
  • Contribute to a range of endoscopic procedures as listed above (diagnostic and therapeutic).
  • Provide care across our endoscopy services trust wide and participate in the on-call rota.
  • Engage with and contribute to the in-house training programme to maintain competency.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Band 5 staff nurse with appropriate current registration and practice requirements.
  • You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks.

  • From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two years of experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to consider sponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria and have a current visa expiring within 3 months).
  • If you are being interviewed you must accept an interview slot in the system to continue, even if you have arranged with the manager.
  • We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
