The Role
  • Position: Sports Assistant / TA
  • Location: Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Bury
  • Start: ASAP
  • Pay: £95-£105/day (PAYE, based on experience)
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm

About the School

This PRU in Bury provides a nurturing and structured environment for secondary-aged students who may have faced challenges in mainstream education due to social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. The team is committed to helping every student succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.

You'll play a vital part in supporting students through engaging and meaningful sports and physical activity sessions, helping to boost confidence, build trust, and promote positive relationships.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Support PE lessons and lead small-group or one-to-one sport sessions
  • Help students stay active, engaged, and focused through sport
  • Use physical activity to promote teamwork, resilience, and emotional regulation
  • Support positive behaviour and student wellbeing
  • Be flexible and willing to support other lessons or activities if needed
What We're Looking For
  • Someone passionate about sport, fitness, and youth development
  • A calm, patient, and understanding approach
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or autism (preferred, not essential)
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to build positive relationships with students who may struggle to trust adults
Requirements
  • A CV covering your last 10 years (with any gaps explained)
  • At least 3 months' experience working with young people
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Two recent references
  • Photo ID and proof of address
