Specifications & Packaging Technologist

Location – East Croydon - London

Premier Fruit & Nut Ltd was established in 1986 by Narendra and Minaxi Shah. With a turnover of £3m in its first year, the company has grown from strength to strength and is now one of the UKs leading dried fruit, nut and seed importers.

We are looking for a Specifications and Packaging Technologist to join the organisation. Reporting to our Technical Manager, you will serve as a key point of contact between internal and external teams. The role is crucial for managing product data and maintaining compliance with regulatory and customer standards.

Role Description
Food Specifications
  • Accurately complete customer product specifications using both online platforms and offline templates.
  • Maintain and update internal product specifications to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and alignment with customer requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers and customers to gather, verify, and clarify specification-related information.
  • Support additional technical tasks, including coordinating lab testing and maintaining the technical database, as required.
Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) and Packaging Waste/Extended Producer Responsibility (ERP)
  • Maintain accurate records of packaging materials and recycled content.
  • Collect and verify packaging data from suppliers
  • Prepare and submit PPT Returns and EPR Packaging Waste Reports
  • Work closely with our Compliance Partner (Clarity Environmental) providing them with accurate data and supporting documentation for compliance submissions
  • Keep packaging data systems up to date and audit-ready
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise the business on any impacts
  • Collaborate with commercial, operations and finance areas to ensure data accuracy
Requirements
Essential
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an ambient food environment
  • Ability to manage a high volume of specifications
  • Candidates must have proven experience using online food specification systems, with a strong track record of completing and managing product specifications accurately and with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of HACCP principles and general food safety standards.
  • Confident using digital tools and online portals, with strong computer literacy.
Desirable
  • Ideally educated to degree level in food science, food technology, or another related subject
  • Experience with packaging emissions data reporting
More details

The Specifications Technologist job is paying £30,000 - £35,000 per annum according to your experience.

Our office is based in East Croydon - this is an on-site full time role.

The package includes 20 days of annual leave plus bank holidays and pension. Discretionary bonus is paid annually.

The working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
