Overview

Applications are invited for a permanent part time post available with immediate effect for a Specialty Grade Doctor in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare at Patrick Clements Clinic, Central Middlesex Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work with ethnically diverse communities, with a team renowned for innovation in sexual health care. The service provides an integrated sexual health service (ISH) which involves the integration of GUM, and Contraception services in Brent to an established cohort. The Doctor will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team to provide a clinical integrated sexual health service to Brent Residents. The post-holder will work within the Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Services in Brent. The Brent service is based in Patrick Clement Clinic at Central Middlesex Hospital.

  • Ealing Hospital: a busy district general hospital providing a range of clinical services, as well as 24/7 emergency department and urgent care centre, and specialist care at Meadow House Hospice
  • Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • To provide a friendly, caring and clinically safe service to cater for the needs of our diverse population, to respect cultural beliefs and treat all clients in a non-judgmental and unbiased manner.
  • To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all methods of contraception and to comply with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health Care and GMC guidance in respect of re-validation and when requested, to produce confirmation that they have done so.
  • To offer professional advice and counselling on all methods of contraception and to be competent in the provision of oral, injectable, sub-dermal, barrier and intra-uterine methods.
  • To work to the requirements of the service specification.
  • To work within the guidelines and protocols laid down by the Trust and Department of Contraceptive and Sexual Health Care.
  • To provide non-judgmental and unbiased advice to teenagers and to provide contraception and sexual health advice, as required, within a legal framework, for those under 16 years.
  • To provide non-judgemental counselling for women with unwanted pregnancies and to refer for abortion as appropriate, having signed HSA1 if required. To offer support and appropriate post-operative care to women attending for follow-up after abortion.
  • To keep detailed, accurate and contemporaneous electronic clinical records.
  • To accept appropriate referrals from GPs, colleagues within sexual health services and to refer clients to other professionals or organisations as necessary.
  • To work closely with the wider clinic staff team and encourage them to develop and maintain new practical skills to result in a multidisciplinary approach to health care.
  • To provide support to nurses working to Patient Group Directions.
  • To collaborate with colleagues to ensure the provision of high quality accessible, acceptable client focussed care.
  • To ensure that all administrative duties (e.g. GP Communication) are undertaken promptly and efficiently.
  • To act to protect patients from harm using the Trust's reporting system.
  • To take personal responsibility for professional fitness to practice.
  • To be punctual in attendance at clinic and to be present for the duration of the clinic session and remain until the last client has left or such a time deemed appropriate by all members of the clinic team after the scheduled time of clinic closure.
  • To attend basic life support and anaphylaxis training on an annual basis. This may be taken within the Trust or elsewhere (proof of attendance must be provided) to comply with Trust's mandatory and statutory training requirements.
  • To undertake further training in areas of Sexual Health allied to Contraception as appropriate and as identified by annual appraisal process.
  • To comply with Trust guidance and protocols including MAST training.
  • To have maintain the IT skills required to work with electronic patient held records and interface with e-portal.
Training, Research and audit Responsibilities
  • The post-holder will work with the Consultant, Associate Specialist and Senior Management Team to develop and participate in a rolling programme of training updates for all levels of staff.
  • The post-holder will work with the Consultant, Associate Specialist and the Senior Management Team to help promote understanding of the role of clinical audit within the department and undertake audit of personal practice on a regular basis.
  • The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining satisfactory clients' notes for audit and be expected to enter relevant data on a computer or manual database.
