Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be joining a multidisciplinary psychiatric liaison service designed to be integrated into the acute hospital but to maintain strong links to mental health services. The Bolton Mental Health Liaison Team is one of the most established Liaison Teams in Greater Manchester, with strong links across the city-wide liaison network. The team will provide rapid assessments, treatments and interventions and aid an early safe discharge of patients back into the most appropriate setting. The current psychiatric liaison services receive about 420 referrals a month.

The post holder will work closely with the Consultants and other team colleagues in the Liaison Service to develop a high quality, responsive, flexible and integrated service meeting the needs of its client group and the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The post holder will be expected to assess the full range of different types of referrals. This will include assessments under the Mental Health Act, including patients who present to the A&E department. Other assessments on other wards (clinical decision unit, medical and surgical assessment units and complex care wards, i.e. any ward of the Royal Bolton Hospital) will also be allocated to the post holder. It is anticipated that the post-holder would carry out an average of 2 new assessments in a full clinical PA, or 3 follow up appointments in the same time period. The post-holder would therefore be expected to be seeing 10-16 patients in a week.

The post holder will be expected to provide psychiatric assessment to patients older than 16. The Liaison Service will not manage patients outside of the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining high quality medical and psychiatric records for clients being treated by the service and for the preparation of communications to GPs and others when a client is discharged from the service.
