Job description
Overview

We are looking for a full-time specialty dentist (replacement post) to work within the Special Care Dentistry service based at Kings College Hospital (Denmark Hill site). The post involves providing dental treatment under sedation (intravenous and inhalation sedation) or local anaesthesia. Treatment under general anaesthesia is provided on a weekly basis, and the post holder will be required to support the GA service.

Main duties
  • Provide a high-quality care service to patients in collaboration with colleagues, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
  • Shared responsibility with other colleagues for covering periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract.
  • Contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
  • Be responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group's management team where part of the service structure.
  • Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths.
  • Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
  • Foster and develop projects to ensure ongoing post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
  • Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure productivity of staff within the specialty and their job satisfaction.
  • Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
About us

The Department of Community Special Care Dentistry forms part of the Dental Care Group of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and has been Consultant-led since 2002. The Department is commissioned by NHS England to provide special care and community dental services across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth, Croydon, Merton & Sutton. It also provides special care dental services within the Dental Hospital for medically complex patients (including oncology, transplant, haematology, and cardiac patients), those who require treatment under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia, and for bariatric patients. The department also provides a mobile dental service for those experiencing homelessness across Lambeth & Southwark. The appointee will be expected to assess and treat urgent cardiac cases prior to surgery. The postholder is a key employee whose role includes assisting in providing first-class healthcare to our patients and offering effective professional leadership to a diverse and highly committed workforce.
