A reputable healthcare institution in London seeks a full-time specialty dentist to provide high-quality dental treatment within their Special Care Dentistry service. Responsibilities include managing medically compromised patients, providing treatment under sedation and general anaesthesia, and contributing to teaching and research activities. We are looking for a full-time specialty dentist (replacement post) to work within the Special Care Dentistry service based at Kings College Hospital (Denmark Hill site). The post involves providing dental treatment under sedation (intravenous and inhalation sedation) or local anaesthesia. Treatment under general anaesthesia is provided on a weekly basis, and the post holder will be required to support the GA service.
The Department of Community Special Care Dentistry forms part of the Dental Care Group of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and has been Consultant-led since 2002. The Department is commissioned by NHS England to provide special care and community dental services across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Kingston, Richmond, Wandsworth, Croydon, Merton & Sutton. It also provides special care dental services within the Dental Hospital for medically complex patients (including oncology, transplant, haematology, and cardiac patients), those who require treatment under intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia, and for bariatric patients. The department also provides a mobile dental service for those experiencing homelessness across Lambeth & Southwark. The appointee will be expected to assess and treat urgent cardiac cases prior to surgery. The postholder is a key employee whose role includes assisting in providing first-class healthcare to our patients and offering effective professional leadership to a diverse and highly committed workforce.
Job responsibilities
The post will be based at Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill site, with the opportunity to provide dental treatment at Queen Marys Hospital in Sidcup. A definitive Job Plan would be agreed with the successful applicant.
